
Under the Classification Act (12/2022), and Classification regulation (R-168/2022) the primary
responsibility of National bureau of classification (NBC) is to classify artistic productions, whether it
is locally produced or imported in to the country, and based on their content, determining the suitable
age group before the productions are made available to the public. In addition, the bureau actively
conducts awareness sessions to educate the public about the classification practices followed in the
Maldives as per above mentioned law and regulation.

There are 7 Classification age groups in which the artistic productions are classified in Maldives.
They are General, (G) Parental Guidance (PG) 12+, 15+, 18+, 18+R and PU.

By classifying the artistic productions prior to their publication, NBC aims to ensure the provision of accurate and strengthened information to the public, while minimizing potential harm regarding the content. Furthermore, the bureau seeks to raise awareness to ensure that
the classification process is conducted in a responsible and appropriate manner across the
country.
